CHROMagar STEC is an effective supplemental medium for the isolation of probable STEC. Given the increasing prevalence of non-O157 STEC relative to O157:H7, using this medium will facilitate the isolation and inclusion of non-O157 STEC serotypes in molecular surveillance systems for early detection and prevention of outbreaks

KPC Chromagar Validation
KPC Chromagar (Paris) was tested in parallel with the CDC Laboratory Protocol for the "Detection of Carbapenem‐Resistant or Carbapenemase Producing Klebsiella or E. coli from Rectal Swabs"
In addition, 9 MHT positive, 10 MHT negative and 6 ATCC control strains were tested to demonstrate selection for carbapenem resistant isolates and species differentiation based on color. All 25 isolates correlated with expected results.

Conclusions and Implications
We suggest that this new and simple cross-plating technique will provide a method for the isolation and detection of V. vulnificus that is more accurate, more time efficient, and more cost effective, particularly when molecular methods are not available.
