CHROMagar publication update
CHROMagar products were involved in a number of scientific posters during the ASM General Meeting posters presentation. Some of these posters presented at ASM 2012 are detailed below, read through them and discover the methods and performance results they got from their studies:
Recent CHROMagar publications
CH-ST162, CHROMagar STEC
ASM 2012 Poster > Evaluation of a new chromogenic agar medium for detection of shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli. S.Giercke et al, Cadham Provincial Laboratory, National Microbiology Laboratory, Manitoba, Canada.
Summary
CHROMagar STEC is an effective supplemental medium for the isolation of probable STEC. Given the increasing prevalence of non-O157 STEC relative to O157:H7, using this medium will facilitate the isolation and inclusion of non-O157 STEC serotypes in molecular surveillance systems for early detection and prevention of outbreaks

CH-KPRT2, CHROMagar KPC
ASM 2012 Poster > Poster: Laboratory Response to a KPC Outbreak at the NIH Clinical Center. Anna Lau et al, Microbiology Service, Department of Laboratory, Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, US Control number: #3618
KPC Chromagar Validation
KPC Chromagar (Paris) was tested in parallel with the CDC Laboratory Protocol for the "Detection of Carbapenem‐Resistant or Carbapenemase Producing Klebsiella or E. coli from Rectal Swabs"
In addition, 9 MHT positive, 10 MHT negative and 6 ATCC control strains were tested to demonstrate selection for carbapenem resistant isolates and species differentiation based on color. All 25 isolates correlated with expected results.

CH-VB910, CHROMagar Vibrio
ASM 2012 Poster > Characterization of Vibrio spp. on CPC+, CHROMagar Vibrio, and TCBS, and Proposed Cross-Plating Method for Isolation of Vibrio vulnificus from Environmental Samples. Tiffany Williams et al, Department of Biology, University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Conclusions and Implications
We suggest that this new and simple cross-plating technique will provide a method for the isolation and detection of V. vulnificus that is more accurate, more time efficient, and more cost effective, particularly when molecular methods are not available.
SUMMARY OF BENEFITS:
Increases accuracy in detecting V. vulnificus
Reduces and/or eliminates the need for genetic testing
Reduces time and money spent on isolation and detection methods

CH-AC092, CHROMagar Acinetobacter
ASM 2012 Poster > Evaluation of CHROMagar Acinetobacter™ for detection of multi-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in clinical specimens. Peter G Huntington & Dean A Gosling, Department of Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, Pacific Laboratory Medicine Services, Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards, NSW.
Conclusions
CHROMagar Acinetobacter™ is an effective and easy-to-use selective medium that may simplify culture and detection of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii group from clinical specimens.
