Background
Mastitis is a disease that causes major losses in dairy production. The most prevalent form of the disease is subclinical mastitis, which leads to decreased milk production and an increased risk of clinical mastitis during lactation. Controlling the spread of contagious subclinical mastitis by rapid identification of causing pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and other Staphylococcus species is fundamental for rapid control measures. CHROMagar™ Staphylococcus is a selective and differential chromogenic medium for the qualitative direct detection and differentiation of Staphylococcus spp.
In combination with CHROMagar™ Streptococcus and CHROMagar™ Mastitis GN, CHROMagar™ Staphylococcus becomes a powerful tool to aid in the detection of pathogens in milk samples. Results can be interpreted after 18-24 h of aerobic incubation at 35-37 °C.
