Compartments are recessed to avoid touching the cover slips on the slides. Slides can easily be removed from the compartments.
The compartment section is made from a double layer of densely pressed cardboard, the cover from a single layer of pressed cardboard. Inside and back are finished with a clear white layer of glossy paper. The hinged top covers are finished in black and are attached with thin but durable tape.
