Eazyplex VRE
Prevent VRE Transmission and Spread in Your Hospital!
Screen without DNA extraction directly from the swab with the eazyplex®VRE panels. With results in as little as 20 minutes, the quick examination of positive blood cultures also reliably contributes to a good therapy decision. The eazyplex®VRE system can be used to support your hygiene management and keep your budget balanced. VanA or VanB resistance results can therefore be attained within 20 minutes, whether from rectal swabs, blood culture or as culture confirmation, without DNA-extractions, including all necessary controls.
Within the gastrointestinal tract, Enterococci reside as part of the normal flora (Ford et al., 2010), which can cause a wide variety of infections, these most commonly being urinary tract infections which can further develop into more dangerous cases such as that of septicaemia. Amoxycillin, an anitmicrobial, is generally used as a straightforward treatment for these cases, in which high concentration in the urine can be seen in standard dosage regimes (Ford et al., 2010).
Vancomycin, one of the most important groups of glycopeptides, show very good response against all commonly encountered gram-positive pathogens, such as S. aureus, as resistance to this antibiotic is very rare (Ford et al., 2010).
VRE strains show various levels of resistance, such as those which express a VanA phenotype areclassed as high level resistant to not just vancomycin, but also teicoplanin (anoter commonly used glycopeptide). These VRE strains typically have a MIC of >128mg/L and show little/ no response to treatment regimes involving vancomycin. Furthremore, VRE strains can also carry resistance mechanism to other antimicrobials which make them truly multidrug resistant (Ford et al., 2010).
